Rice spread to Japan from China.

Rice is important thing for Japanese because there eat it every day. It is staple food for Japanese. Japan has a lot of dishes with rice, such as sushi and rice cakes. We have been eating rice for a long time.

I will show you about rice, because I want to know more it.

Then, let`s think. When and where rice spread?

Three thousand years ago, Rice spread to Japan from China. It is a very long way, about 850km. People were using the boat. We can found out a lot of old farm tools ruins from China.

And Japanese population increase because Japanese begun to make rice. There is a reason went to spread rice in Japan. For example, rice contains a lot of nutrition. It can be stored for a long time too. And then the most important reason is that you can harvest a lot from a little seed. It has been able to harvest a lot, because breed has been improved gradually. Today, two thousand grain can be harvested from a grain of rice.

By the way, how to grew rice in ancient China?

It is an event of ten thousand years ago from now. People began to grow rice in the Yangtze River in China.

Rice is difficult to grow than wheat because it should be grown in a warm place and need a lot of water. Conversely wheat is grown in a cold place. On one hand in the south of China, rice is grown extensively. On the other hand, in the north of China, wheat is grown.

Rice is valuable for Japanese. Once upon a time Japanese were using the money instead of rice. And then people had a war to get it. Small country was founded thanks to the rice. Rice is compared to silver in Japan. For example, Japanese call “Gin-shari,” it means white rice. And they cook a lot of rice with a special day such a big festival.

I will explain further details later date. See you again.
