A variety of rice

Hello everyone.

Today, I will talk about type of rice.

There are main 3 types. The first type, Japonica is most famous kinds for Japanese. It is soft, tough and roundness. Ten thousand years ago, it spread to Japan from China.

The second type, Indica [Indian rice] is long and an oval shapes. It has grown a lot in China and India. Indica is the type which can be harvested in the world. We can harvest a lot of crops than Japonica. It is often eaten with cully.

The third type is Jabanika [Spanish rice]. The shape is look like Japonica, and big drops of crops. It is grown in Europe, so it used Europe dish.

There are about twenty thousand kinds of rice all over the world.

In addition, Japonica is divided into small kind in Japan. Non-glutinous rice is the most of common kind. We call Uruchi rice. In Japan, many types of Non-glutinous rice are grown.  Akita-komachi can be given as famous types.

The rice cakes made from glutinous rice and Non-glutinous rice. This shuld not be hard when it cool, so it is delicious. We call mochi rice to it, because we need it when we make rice cake.  Mochi means rice cakes.

Kaori rice is special for Japanese. This is useful for festivals and other special ceremonies. Smells like popcorn when it is warm.

Sake rice is used to make sake. Sake is Japanese alcohol drink. This is a large drop compared to the Japonica of the ordinary.

Red rice is a very old type, and it was handed down from ancient China. Black rice and Green rice are similar to it. They are very colorful. Red rice contains a lot of nutrients, but it does not contain much moisture.

We can harvest about six hundred and ninety million tons of rice in the world every year. And China is country that are harvested rice is the vest in the world. Japan is the 11th. Amount that is harvested in China and India account for half of the world`s harvest.

However, Bangladesh is a lot of consumption per capita. People living in Bangladesh eat about 5kg of rice per day. By the way, Japanese people eat about 1.6kg of rice a day. Japanese prefer to eat Non-glutinous rice.

How to store rice is very important because Japanese eat rice every day. Next time, I will introduced about worm and insects bleed rice.

Rice spread to Japan from China.

Rice is important thing for Japanese because there eat it every day. It is staple food for Japanese. Japan has a lot of dishes with rice, such as sushi and rice cakes. We have been eating rice for a long time.

I will show you about rice, because I want to know more it.

Then, let`s think. When and where rice spread?

Three thousand years ago, Rice spread to Japan from China. It is a very long way, about 850km. People were using the boat. We can found out a lot of old farm tools ruins from China.

And Japanese population increase because Japanese begun to make rice. There is a reason went to spread rice in Japan. For example, rice contains a lot of nutrition. It can be stored for a long time too. And then the most important reason is that you can harvest a lot from a little seed. It has been able to harvest a lot, because breed has been improved gradually. Today, two thousand grain can be harvested from a grain of rice.

By the way, how to grew rice in ancient China?

It is an event of ten thousand years ago from now. People began to grow rice in the Yangtze River in China.

Rice is difficult to grow than wheat because it should be grown in a warm place and need a lot of water. Conversely wheat is grown in a cold place. On one hand in the south of China, rice is grown extensively. On the other hand, in the north of China, wheat is grown.

Rice is valuable for Japanese. Once upon a time Japanese were using the money instead of rice. And then people had a war to get it. Small country was founded thanks to the rice. Rice is compared to silver in Japan. For example, Japanese call “Gin-shari,” it means white rice. And they cook a lot of rice with a special day such a big festival.

I will explain further details later date. See you again.
